Recommendation Review of UNLOCKING THE HERO WITHIN
“It was the beginning of the pandemic, and as a recent transplant in L.A., the last thing I wanted to do was to read a self-help book. Being tarred and feathered in a hot yoga class sounded more appealing. I was afraid that it would be just another variation of motivational phrases and platitudes that left me feeling empty and annoyed.
But I read UNLOCKING THE HERO WITHIN and instead of it feeling like a chore to read, it felt more like the author befriended me in an upfront and playful way.
If Al Secunda had been talking to me in person, I imagine we’d be sharing a beer at one of those old Irish bars in NYC. No frills, just friendly straight talk, from someone who knows doubt and fear intimately, but who has practiced the action of being more curious about these emotions than running from them.
Al focuses on turning fear into action - seconds at a time - so quickly that it makes it more difficult for the “fear-full” brain to catch up!
That approach alone inspired me to begin asking myself, “What would happen if…?” which led me to explore my dream of having a true western experience; horses, mountains, and all.
Thanks to UNLOCKING THE HERO WITHIN I was able to take what looked like an unrealistic possibility and turn it into an adventurous working experience for the last year.
“What if” into curiosity, and curiosity into action - saved the day.
I went from UNLOCKING THE HERO WITHIN in a matter of weeks because I was willing to move forward for fifteen seconds at a time!”
